‘Arrival’ by Hillsong
We can never overstate the miracle of the incarnation. This song beautifully expresses the wondrous truth that God immerses himself in his own creation. The artist steps into the painting, the architect lives within his design, the one who holds stars is held as a baby, breathing the air his breath sustains. ‘All hail the infinite infant God!’
Bethan (Ammanford)
‘See amid the Winter Snow’
I love the lines: ‘Lo, within a manger lies, He who built the starry skies’. It’s incredible to think that the helpless baby lying in that feeding trough; who couldn’t walk and talk; who needed to be fed from his teenage mother’s breast and have his nappy changed, was at the same time upholding the cosmos. And he made the long journey ‘from highest bliss, down to such a world as this’, to go to a cross 33 years later where he took the blame and punishment for all my shame, guilt, tangled, dirty mess that has ruined my life and the lives of others.
Alun (Ebbw Vale)
‘We Three Kings’
Although it is not certain that the Wise Men were kings, the carol very simply and effectively explains the meaning of the gifts they brought to Jesus. Gold to honour a king, frankincense to worship him as God and myrrh to anoint a suffering and dying Saviour. The last verse brings it all together, reminding us that he rose from the dead and is alive forever.
